Steps for installing Ubuntu on Samsung N130 Netbook without mechanical hard drive
1. Download Ubuntu latest build: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/lucid-desktop-i386.iso
2. Burn the ISO to a CD, or use UltraISO to write the content of the ISO to a 2GB USB stick
3. Remove SATA hard drive and replace with below SATA-SD Adapter (search eBay ~$20)
4. Insert a 16GB or 8GB SD card in the adapter’s slot
5. Plug the SATA-SD adapter to the position and plug the CDROM or 2GB USB stick in one of the USB slot
6. Set BOOT sequence in BIOS to USB-HDD
7. Power up netbook and perform the installation
8. After installation, when it prompt to remove CDROM or USB stick, remove it and hit ENTER to reboot
9. If you get "Out of disk … Grub rescue" message, go to BIOS to change "Large Disk Access Mode" to "Other", this is the point blocks me for several days.
Now you can shake your netbook, or keep it running when heading home, and without worry about damage to your "hard disk" - the SD card.
